IS THE MIDDLE FINGER ALL THAT MUMBAIKARS COULD SHOW INDIA ????

And what do you make of this. The most esteemed and the so called royal lineage of bollywood showing off their middle finger to the world like its no one business. The recent elections saw the bollywood brigade come out in scattered numbers and jut their middle fingers to the camera’s of various print and online media to show their voting marks.

Election Commission sources said the officials in Maharashtra were permitted to put the indelible ink on the middle finger because local body election had taken place in the state recently. “It was pointed out that the mark of the indelible ink on the forefinger, put during the local body polls, is still there. Therefore, EC gave permission to the state CEO to put the mark this time on the middle finger.”

This trend was not only followed by the bollywood but also by various politicians who later realized that this was in poor taste as there has already been a furor over this issue when in 2005, Australian Greg Chappell, former coach of the Indian cricket team, had showed the finger to Sourav Ganguly’s fans at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Though this looked like a well thought over decision of the election commission in conjunction with the state government, it brings into forefront the compromising morals and values that we have started to display publically. IN a country where you greet people with folded hands and touch their feet to show respect, it is now a matter of pride and joy to strut around showing your middle finger and carrying it off with élan in front of millions of people across the nation who aspire to be like our esteemed politicians and bollywood dream makers.

To add to the satire it was funny that the middle finger also was not able to get voters on the streets and despite many A listeners being roped in for various elections and ad campaigns there was a meager turnout of 47%. This year, the whole country looked at Mumbai and expected that the events of 26/11 might have changed the Bombay mindset. These claims and assurances were not backed by any empirical evidence.

A prominent Delhi socialite just had one comment to make “Is the middle finger all that Mumbaikars could show India and that too after claims being made that the events of 26/11 had changed Mumbaikars forever and there was suddenly shock and outrage followed by political uproars. It is as though Mumbai betrayed the nation and showed us that it is just made of bimbos, bores and society bombshells who use every opportunity to feature in the newspapers weather it is Page 3 or Page 1.”
